A member of the Alumni Board of Directors is appointed to hold the position based on demonstrated involvement, support and commitment to 手机赌博app and the Alumni Association. In accepting this four-year appointment, the member agrees to fulfill the requirements and meet the responsibilities associated with board membership. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending and participating in all three scheduled board meetings held each year on campus. If unable to attend a board meeting, to submit in advance of the meeting a written response related to action items on the agenda.
  • Serving actively on Alumni Board and Alumni Association committees. These committee meetings are held in conjunction with the board meeting but many are also held at other times throughout the year.
  • Contributing financially to the University. All board members are expected to be current and annual donors.
  • Developing funding support by assisting the staff in development and fundraising efforts by arranging introductions, encouraging friends and associates to attend special events and otherwise opening doors to funding sources.
  • Becoming a representative and spokesperson in his/her community for Bowling Green State University and the Alumni Association. This may involve recruiting prospective students, meeting with other alumni and attending local alumni chapter events and more.
  • Representing the University and Alumni Association at institutional and alumni activities both locally and on-campus whenever possible.
  • Serving in an advisory and advocacy capacity for the alumni association and providing active support of the alumni association through resolutions and board advocacy.

Jack Hott ’70, ’91

2012-2021
Position:  Chair

Jack Hott earned both a Bachelor of Science degree, 1970, and a Master of Business Administration, 1991, from 手机赌博app. He also received a Master of Public Administration at the University of Oklahoma in 1977. A retired Air Force officer, he has over four decades working in federal contracts and acquisition. He is the owner of Sourcing Outcomes & Solutions LLC concentrating on subcontract/purchasing business systems for federal government contractors. He previously served on the National Contract Management Association’s Board of Directors (including terms as the regional vice president and national vice president and treasurer), and currently is a member of the Subcontract Management Institute Board of Trustees.

Alison Frye ’00

Outside of her professional time, Alison is involved with the Rotary Club of Perrysburg, serving as President. In addition, Alison serves Rotary in Public Image and Marketing in multiple states across the Midwest. In 2016, Alison was named one of Rotary’s 40 Young Professionals under the age of 40 for an area encompassing over 60,000 Rotarians in the Midwest and Canada.

Alison also volunteers for Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and is a board member for the Fort Meigs YMCA and Girls on the Run of Northwest Ohio. In 2012, Alison was selected as a Toledo 20 Under 40 Award recipient. She has called Perrysburg home since 2007 with her daughters, Abigail and Mackenzie.

Carol Ware ’78

Carol Ware received a Bachelor of Science in Magazine Journalism/Advertising from 手机赌博app. Following an early career in publishing and public relations in the private sector, she retired from the State of Ohio Department of Medicaid as the Health Equity Administrator, after 30 years of service.

Matthew Maurer ’06

2015-2023
Position:  Chair, Finance, Audit & Investment Committee

Matt Maurer is the Senior Vice President at WasteZero, an innovative B Corp that combines service, product & technology to deliver next generation waste reduction programs resulting in over 6.7 million tons of landfill diversion, reaching over 6 million consumers annually and has saved cities over $1.6B. Prior to WasteZero, Maurer held various roles at Reynolds Consumer Products including leadership of the trash bag business, a $1B retail business encompassing Hefty Brands, Private Label and the Hefty EnergyBag Program. In addition to the base business marketing and advertising, Maurer was also responsible for business specific M&A and new ventures, product innovation and growth strategies.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from 手机赌博app in 2006 and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. At 手机赌博app, Maurer also serves on the College of Business Young Alumni Board and is a proud member of the Presidents Club and the Falcon Club. Outside of 手机赌博app, Maurer is a past chairman of the board for directors for his National Fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi and a co-founder of KAP Connect. He currently resides in Chicago with his wife, Molly ’07,  and their daughters Madison and Mackenzie.  

Charlotte McKenzie ’79

Position:  Chair, Development & Volunteer Recognition Committee

Charlotte McKenzie received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from 手机赌博app. While at 手机赌博app, she was a member of the Marketing Club, The Obsidian newspaper, and did advertising sales for the BG News.  She also has a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and was a member of the National Honor Society of Sigma Iota Epsilon. With more than 35 years of multifunctional experience in startup company environments and Fortune 500 companies, Charlotte recently retired as a Clinical Specialist from BTG, International, Inc. and was a recipient of BTG’s 2015-2016 Circle of Excellence award. She has also worked for Johnson & Johnson, Cor Therapeutics, Millennium Corporation, and Schering Plough. Her roles included new business development, executive training, team leadership, sales, and marketing.

An avid community volunteer, Charlotte currently is a member of the League of Women Voters/Collin County-Vice President of Programs, the National Black MBA Association, Dallas Women’s Foundation/XIX Society, The Links Incorporated, Junior League of Dallas, and AARP Advocacy Lead Team. She is also an ambassador for both The Arts Community Alliance (TACA) and Frisco Arts. 

Martha Haskins Oakes ’86

Position:  Chair, Student Recruitment, Retention & Scholarship Committee

Martha Oakes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from 手机赌博app in 1986.  Following graduation she started working for Westfield Insurance, one of the 50 largest property and casualty insurance companies in the United States.  Martha left Westfield in June 2017, after 31 years with the company.  At the time of her departure she led the Middle Market & Specialty Lines underwriting and sales teams.  Martha served as a trustee of the Ohio Insurance Institute for 10 years, including terms as the vice chairman and presidential search committee chairman.  She has also served as a board member for Project Learn of Medina County, and as the Funds Committee chair of Jerusalem Lutheran Church.  Martha received the YWCA of Cleveland’s Women of Professional Excellence award in 2007 and was named one of Business Insurance Magazine’s Women to Watch in 2008.  Martha currently serves on the women's leadership team at Northside Christian Church and resides in Westfield Center, Ohio with her husband, Greg, and their daughter, Sarah.

Jeff Cashell ’96

2017-2021

Jeff Cashell received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from 手机赌博app in 1996 and his Master in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance from Johns Hopkins University in 2002.  Jeff is currently the Vice President of Contracts, Subcontracts and Procurements at Battelle in Columbus, Ohio where he oversees about $1B in annual sales and $360M in annual spend. Jeff is a seasoned contracts professional where he has over twenty years of experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry with specialized competencies in contract management, customer relationships, negotiation, procurement, program management, business development, change management, leadership and compliance. He also serves on the Board of Directors as well as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee for the Battelle National Biodefense Institute. While at 手机赌博app Jeff was a four year starter on the Falcon Golf Team and was named to the Academic All-American Team his junior and senior years and earned the Falcon Club’s Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year award. 

Amanda Christian ’98

2018-2022

Amanda Christian is the Senior Vice President of Subcontracts and Procurement at CACI International Inc., where she oversee an organization that purchases $1.8B of goods and services per year.  Amanda graduated in 1998 with her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration specializing in Supply Chain Management from 手机赌博app.  In 2002, she obtained her Master of Business Administration from Marymount University. She a is longtime member of the National Contracts Management Association (NCMA), where she serves on the Board of Directors.  Amanda and her husband, Andre, reside in Falls Church, Virginia with their two sons, Xavier and Elijah.

Deidra Corbett-Ihlenfeld ’78

2019-2023

Deidra Corbett-Ihlenfeld received a Bachelor of Science degree from 手机赌博app in Education with emphasis in the area of Speech and Hearing Therapy in 1978. While at 手机赌博app, she belonged to various organizations; Alpha Angel, Delta Sigma Theta, Third World Theater, Minority Affairs Screening Committee, and the 手机赌博app Performing Dancers. She later went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Communication (Organizational Communication Consulting) from Ohio University in 1990.

Deidra retired in 2008 after 31 years with the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, having spent the last 10 years as Superintendent of the Cambridge Developmental Center (an intermediate care facility for adults with developmental disabilities). She was a member of the Association of Public Developmental Disabilities Administrators (APDDA), and co-editor of “The Digest,” a national publication of APDDA. During her years with the Department Deidra served on the statewide Behavior Modification and the Major Unusual Incident Review Committees.

Brenda Frankart ’90, ’97

2016-2020

Brenda (Gribler) Frankart is a 1987 graduate of Van Wert High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary mathematics education from 手机赌博app in 1990, and she earned her master’s degree in educational administration in 1997 from 手机赌博app. She has also completed her superintendent’s licensure coursework from the University of Findlay in 2005.

Brenda started her educational career as a high school mathematics teacher at Fostoria High School for eight years before becoming principal of Liberty-Benton High School for 20 years.  She currently serves Liberty-Benton Local Schools as the Director of Federal Programs and Curriculum.

Brenda serves the Ohio High School Athletic Association on the Northwest District Athletic Board, and she is the sport coordinator for cross country, track and field, and co-coordinator for girls’ and boys’ basketball. She has been a member of the Blanchard Valley Conference Governing Board since 1999 and has been a member of the OHSAA-OASSA Principals’ Advisory Committee for six years. In 2010, Brenda was the Ohio High School Principal of the Year. Brenda lives in Findlay with her son, Ethan.

Rob Furia ’12

2019-2023

Rob Furia graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science in 2012 and then began working as an actuary for Cincinnati Insurance near his hometown.  He completed the actuarial examination process in 2018, earning the Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation, and now works in the company’s reinsurance division pricing reinsurance contracts.

Rob was heavily involved in H2O Church at 手机赌博app and has maintained that involvement at the University of Cincinnati location, where he has continued to mentor college students for the past 7 years.  Over that time, he has also been appointed as an elder in the church and has overseen the creation of a new ministry group aimed at young professionals and recent graduates.

Chase Masters ’06, ’08

2019-2023

Chase holds a Bachelor of Science in Technology and a Master of Education in Learning Design & Development from 手机赌博app. As an undergraduate, he participated in the University Activities Organization, Visual Communication Technology Organization, Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity, Falcon Marching Band, and Athletic Band. As a graduate student, he co-taught Introduction to VCT and Photography I as a graduate teaching assistant, and he served on the Visual Communication Technology Programming Board and Graduate Students of Technology Organization, respectively. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the 手机赌博app Band Alumni Society. 

Chase is the Enabling Technologies Informationist at the Taubman Health Sciences Library at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. His role involves managing technology projects and resources, consulting with faculty to effectively incorporate technology into their curriculum, supervising staff, serving on various committees, and identifying and building partnerships with instructional technology units throughout the university community.

Bob Mihocik ’01, ’03

2017-2021

Bob Mihocik received both his bachelor (2001) and master (2003) degrees in Computer Science from Bowling Green State University. He went on to earn an MBA from The Ohio State University. Mihocik currently serves at Applications Development Lead for Bank One in Columbus. Prior positions with the company include junior applications developer and production support team lead. He is a member of 手机赌博app’s Presidents Club and Falcon Club. 

Corey Minor Smith ’96, ’98

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree of Arts in English and a master’s degree of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Bowling Green State University. She then earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo College of Law. In addition to being a member of the Ohio and Georgia bars, Smith is also licensed to practice before the United States District Court of the Northern District of Ohio. Currently, Smith serves as General Counsel for Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority of which she was once a resident. She has received numerous accolades and awards, including the Boy Scouts of America Buckeye Council Spirit of Scouting Award, She Elevates Woman of Courage Award, induction into the YWCA Women’s Hall of Fame, and was named an ATHENA International Women’s Leadership Finalist.   

Smith also served as a Canton City Council at Large member after receiving the most votes out of five other candidates. She is the first African American to ever be elected to a city-wide position in Canton, OH. As a city council member, Smith focused on supporting community development block grant funds being allocated to address mental health issues among youth and enhancing community awareness about services and resources available in the community. Whether she is speaking at the lectern, holding forth in court, or conversing in dialogue in community centers across the country, Attorney Corey Minor Smith is well-versed speaker, thinker and community activist.

Jodi Mitchell ’95

2016-2020

Jodi owns her own consulting practice, JC Health Strategies, LLC., based out of Twinsburg, Ohio. With over 20 years in health care policy and government relations, Jodi is focused on influencing policies and supporting community health improvement efforts. She currently works in the corporate environment engaging businesses to promote healthy communities. Jodi previously served as a health policy program officer for a health foundation in Cleveland, where she devoted attention to Medicaid expansion, ACA implementation and community health improvement initiatives including obesity prevention. She has also served as executive director of a statewide consumer health advocacy organization and was a health lobbyist at both the state and federal level.

Thad Standley ’95

2015-2022

Thad Standley is a director of Organizational Development and Learning for Honeywell, supporting their Automation and Control Solutions business group. Previously, Standley worked in organizational development roles for more than 20 years across Cargill, 3M and Alliant Tech Systems.

Standley is originally from Lincoln, Neb., and earned his bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1993. At 手机赌博app, he earned dual master’s degrees in the Master in Business Administration and Master in Organization Development programs in 1995. While at 手机赌博app, Standley was active in the Graduate Student Senate, Graduate Business Student Association and Organization Development Student Network. He is an active volunteer, serving on the board of directors of Senior Community Services and supporting youth leadership development for more than 25 years with Launch Leadership (formerly the Nebraska Association of Student Councils). He and his wife, Kim, have two children, Cate (born in 2013) and Greg (born in 2015.)

Mizell Stewart III ’94

2015-2022

Mizell Stewart III is vice president/News Operations for Gannett and the USA TODAY Network. His team provides oversight of newsroom technology, partnerships and the company’s five design studios. Before joining Gannett, Stewart was a corporate news executive for Journal Media Group and the E.W. Scripps Company. He has been an editor, managing editor, local news editor and award-winning reporter at the Evansville Courier & Press, the Akron Beacon Journal, the Tallahassee Democrat, the Dayton Daily News and the Springfield News-Sun. A four-time Pulitzer Prize juror, Stewart helped lead the team at The Sun Herald in Biloxi, Miss., that won the 2006 Pulitzer Gold Medal for Public Service for coverage of Hurricane Katrina. He is active in the news industry and currently serves as president of the American Society of News Editors. Stewart is a journalism graduate of 手机赌博app and holds a master's degree in executive leadership and organizational change from Northern Kentucky University. He resides with his wife, Valerie, in Aurora, Ohio.

Stephanie Swiger ’08

2018-2022

Stephanie Swiger received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from 手机赌博app in 2008. She was a four year starter on the 手机赌博app Women's Volleyball team served as a captain her senior year. Swiger also served as the President of the 手机赌博app Student-Athletes Advisory Committee (SAAC), Chair of the Mid-American Conference SAAC and was a a three year member of the NCAA Division I National SAAC. She was named the 2007 手机赌博app Junior Scholar Athlete of the Year, 2008 手机赌博app Senior of the Year, 2008 President's Award for Distinguished Service, 2008 Inaugural Falcon Medal of Honor Winner and the 2008 Mid-American Conference NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee. 

Swiger graduated from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law in 2011.  She practiced law in both the public and private sector before spending five years as an Assistant Director of Investigations and Processing for the NCAA's Enforcement staff in Indianapolis, Indiana.  In 2017 Swiger joined the Ohio Attorney General's Office in Columbus where she is an Assistant Attorney General for the Education Section.  In this role she represents the legal interests of Ohio's public two and four year colleges and universities.

Alex Wright ’06

Alex Wright owns and operates Pure Barre boutique fitness studios throughout the Sacramento, California region along with his wife, Kristen Wright (07’).   Pure Barre is the largest barre fitness franchise in the country.  Prior to moving to California, Alex spent over six years at The Ohio State University in a variety of administrative roles.  White there, he primarily focused in off-campus real estate development and the implementation of the university’s long-term parking lease and concession agreement to outside operators. 

Originally from Wapakoneta, Ohio, he is a 2006 summa cum laude graduate from 手机赌博app with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Political Science, and he received a Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University in 2009. While at 手机赌博app, Alex was elected Undergraduate Student Government President, served on the Homecoming Committee, worked as a Campus Tour Guide, and was a member of Delta Chi fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He and his wife are Falcon Flames and they were Freddie and Frieda Falcon during their time on campus. They have two sons, Luca and Zenzo, and reside in Rocklin, California.
